Hardly worth the effort

Few days back, a friend of mine shared a really good post from Seth’s Blog. And it read:

In most fields, there’s an awful lot of work put into the last ten percent of quality.

Getting your golf score from 77 to 70 is far more difficult than getting it from 120 to 113 or even from 84 to 77.

Answering the phone on the first ring costs twice as much as letting it go into the queue.

Making pastries the way they do at a fancy restaurant is a lot more work than making brownies at home.

Laying out the design of a page or a flyer so it looks like a pro did it takes about ten times as much work as merely using the template Microsoft builds in for free, and the message is almost the same…

Except it’s not. Of course not. The message is not the same.

The last ten percent is the signal we look for, the way we communicate care and expertise and professionalism. If all you’re doing is the standard amount, all you’re going to get is the standard compensation. The hard part is the last ten percent, sure, or even the last one percent, but it’s the hard part because everyone is busy doing the easy part already.

The secret is to seek out the work that most people believe isn’t worth the effort. That’s what you get paid for.

Today is your day, feel it!

Certain things never happen YOUR way!” How many times have you felt like that? We all happen to follow the crowd because that’s the easiest part. Busy in our daily life jobs, doing what every other individual is doing. And we are least bothered about our future, our dream! Most of us today went to colleges and have a degree just because dad said so. We never bother to find out what we love to do, skills in which we excel, passion within us that can change everything around! Think think think..

I have seen people in my life, who are good at many other things but they are busy wasting their time in organizations where their skill do not mean anything. Not every employer will utilize you to your best potential. You might not get exciting new tasks every now and then. But then again, how many of us are really bothered? It will always involve certain risk factor for you to move on..

It’s about how much you believe in yourself. Today is your day so feel it – feel what’s best inside you before it’s too late. Focus on your core skills, on quality, on excellence..and remember ‘sky is the limit‘. Its not only about ventures, it’s about destiny!

Gallery Stats for axdimensions

I finally got a chance to update my DeviantArt account last week which reminded me of gallery statistics. I haven’t been designing much recently, kinda busy with more of development work and been avoiding Photoshop (my favorite photo-editing tool) due to piracy reasons! GIMP has been a good alternate as I am trying to get major editing work done through it. Thought I would share my boring gallery stats:

axdimensions has 4,111 pageviews total and his 74 deviations were viewed 20,528 times. Overall, his deviations received 54 comments and were added to deviants’ favourites 52 times, while he commented 30 times, making about 0.01 comments per day since he joined DA. This means that he received 18 comments for every 10 that he gave.
His deviation with the most comments is JWT: splash with 7 comments, while his most favourited one is newsletter: fall04 frontpage, with 5 favourites. His most viewed deviation is Newsletter layout with 1,257 views.
10 favourites were given for every 10 comments.
Every 27 days he uploads a new deviation, and it’s usually on a Sunday, with 19 (26%) of his deviations.
His busiest month was January 2006 with 17 (23%) of his deviations.
The majority of his deviations are uploaded to the designs gallery (67), while his favourite category was designs > web with 32 deviations.

Yep, I have been a little lazy with my teeny weeny gfx skill. I have been mostly designing web layouts and none of them got any extra ordinary stats among my other deviations :$ oops!

Colors spread colors..

Hmm, here is something different that I tried this morning. It’s basically a proof-of-concept :D Few weeks back an idea clicked my mind but that could be only done through painting/sketching. I shared the idea with a little friend but it turned out to be weird :$ “A man standing by the canvas with black & white sketch on the paper and when he puts his hand over the sketch, the part gets colored!” .. quite a fantasy? ;) Anyway, I tried to do the same with limited skills that I have (photo-edit using GIMP).

It’s all dull around but the colors are spreading colors!

A hopeful sunset

Every sunset leads to darkness, with no hope of light! We do feel sad about many sunset in our lives but there was one sunset yesterday which showed a ray of hope. PHET storm was about to hit Karachi and was only 70km away..strong winds could be felt and people feared heavy rains. Just when little light was seen at the back of the clouds..

And it stopped raining, the winds settled down and there were hopes for electricity, life & happiness! It was a lovely sunset and I could only snap a moment using my Nokia E-series.

Is it the end of activeDimensions?

I haven’t been able to update my blog lately. People even buzzed me for it but there have been tons of other things on priority due to which I ain’t getting much time to share my thoughts. No, I am not just sitting and watching the sunset. Rather I am hoping and struggling during this sunset for a better tomorrow!

Keep the light on! Support Huda TV

Huda TV has been doing great work since its launch. I came across this lovely channel back in April 2009 during my stay in Qatar. There are number of programs that help you gain more knowledge about your prayers, duas and daily life matters.  And the best part is every piece of information is followed by Hadith. In Middle East, the channel has helped many non-muslims to convert.

Unfortunately, the channel is currently facing serious financial problems due to which they need ‘our’ help. Let me quote their message:

Asalam-o-Alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Brothers and sisters, HUDA TV has been facing financial trouble through the recent times. Please visit HUDA.TV for more information to help. Keep the light on!

Quoted from Siyaada Alli: “Quoted from the group ” Keep the Light On – Save Huda TV ” and the show that was just aired on Huda TV:

“Unfortunately this light is on the verge of extinguishing. Huda Tv requires $ 2 Million to stay on Air for the year. Our responsibility as Muslims is to ensure that this Light stays on & grows.

How can we help?

A small donation from your side, or getting a business man to sponsor this beautiful channel even if it be a part of its cost. Spread this message to all your Family / Friends. Leave no stone unturned. May Allah Reward us with good in this life & in the hereafter (Ameen).”"

May Allah (swt) help us spread the message of Allah (swt). All it takes is a message to those who can support, all if takes is a single donation. May be that paves your path to Jannah inshAllah.

Jazakumallahu Khairan,
Wsalaam wrwb

Muslim brothers and sisters who wish to contribute can visit their website for contribution details. I, along with other friends are also gathering funds locally so that we can send a payment altogether. In case you’re interested, please leave a comment on this post.

JazakAllah ul khair!

End of year 2009

Yep, another year has passed by. I have been a little busy with the MBA program along with job due to which this post got a little delayed. During the last year, I could not blog much due to some random busy-ness but I do not wish to carry forward it for 2010. Anyway, the year started very well and was progressing smooth until we (me and STUPEFY) decided to opt for MBA degree not realizing weekend classes will make the schedule more hectic. Initially the idea seemed all well but when we actually started taking classes, the whole scenario changed until we got used of the ‘change’ and finally got pretty used to of the busy-busy schedule.

March 2009 marked the completion of 1st year of Connect2Pk and by the grace of Allah, we have been progressing well on it – Mash’Allah! During Q4, we finally mustered up some courage, took out some time and finalized upon 1 more idea. We were done with paper work by the end of October 2009 and planned a soft launch by the end of year 2009. And Alhamdulillah we made it! We managed to do a soft launch of project Infiniti (currently targeted to a very limited audience) and we hope to market it as soon as we complete the set of features planned for beta release.

I, on the other side, still believe in few more things, few more ideas related to services that might ponder up during 2010 Insh’Allah. Things around me have changed a lot during 2009. Apart from that, I have completely shifted to LAMP and enjoying the open-source experience on Ubuntu.

activeDimensions, a little space where I share my thoughts and happenings, had the following statistics during year 2009 (sharing top10 posts by unique page views):

  1. Doddle – a free SIP web client
  2. People I admire..
  3. Will ‘Sheesha.pk’ hammer the rest?
  4. Say NO to pirated softwares!
  5. Em 2007-2008: A year in review
  6. The victory was celebrated all over Twitter, #PakCricket!
  7. Good luck, Imad & Munir!
  8. Revolution starts within!
  9. Connect2Pk.com reviewed at KillerStartups.com!
  10. Creative browser effects!

Hmm, I just updated my blog theme today and I feel the categories and tags need a re-touch. I feel more inclined towards new technology and working with new stuff related to web. I hope to share my experiences with my readers as I go through year 2010 Insh’Allah.

Have a nice day!

infiniti, December 2009

We all are living in geographical boundaries created by men, separated from our loved ones. The distance between us and the people who matter in our life keeps on increasing with time, due to limited resources. Together with infiniti, we’ll make you feel closer and connected to your loved ones! Stay tuned..
